Current Projects at Vogen Energy
Vogen Energy is developing a significant portfolio of bioenergy supply chain infrastructure processing assets, storage & transfer facilities. Typically, such assets have the following primary characteristics:
-
located on brownfield land in designated industrial areas that are already well served with marine, rail and road transport infrastructure and close to energy load centres, gas and electricity grid connection points; in order to minimise environmental impact and maximise use of existing infrastructure
-
use well proven, high efficiency, state of the art feedstock processing & handling technology
-
have viable access to a broad range of feedstocks available for processing and blending from either inside the local region, or imported from further afield
One such facility currently under development is Vogens’ already consented bio-energy feedstock processing, storage & distribution hub facility in Newport Dock,
The hub facility represents an investment of ≈£54m and will help address significant supply chain shortfalls in supplying major electricity generators with commercially competitive & sustainably certified biomass pellet, with demand forecast to reach circa 4.5m tonnes/year in the UK by 2015 – over 8x greater than current indigenous production capacity.
Given its’ excellent location and existing supporting infrastructure, the plant will provide opportunities for feedstock import and pellet export throughout the UK and also into key European markets such as Holland, Ireland, Belgium and France. The plant will also have its’ own dedicated natural gas fired CCGT CHP plant to meet on site heat demand, which will export circa 27MWe of electricity into the local grid.
